Reviewing the Evidence

The onus is on candidates to provide sufficient evidence to satisfy assessors that they currently hold the relevant competencies. The assessor will ask themselves whether the evidence is:

Current

• demonstrates the candidate's capacity to perform the work/tasks in their current work situation

• is still relevant and current according to the competency requirements

• reflects work carried out by the candidate over a period of time.

Question: Does the applicant have the knowledge now, and can they still do the tasks?

Authentic

• is clearly identifiable as the candidate's own work and relates to their performance, not that of another person

• presented in the form of qualifications, references, licences etc are signed off as a full and correct copy of the original by a credible third party.

Question: Is it the applicant's own work? And their own evidence?

Valid

• directly relates to the current version of the unit of competency

• demonstrates the relevant underpinning skills and knowledge

Question: Does the candidate's skills and knowledge reflect the current training package standards?

Sufficient

• covers the full range of critical aspects of evidence in the relevant unit of competency

• includes different types of evidence

Question: Does the evidence cover all the elements in the unit of competency?

Reliable

• shows that the candidate consistently meets the competency standards

• shows competency over a period of time and in different contexts

Question: Can the applicant use the required skills and knowledge in a variety of situations, with a range of people and equipment?
